Command Sargent Major Carl M. Lopez (Retired)
Command Sargent Major Carl M. Lopez retired from the United States Army after 32 years of service. Was born in Fresno, California. Graduated from Wickenburg High School, Wickenburg, Arizona. Also, a graduate of South University, Columbia, SC with Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Management.
He graduated from the Basic Airborne School, Jump Master School, Northern Warfare Training School, Jungle Operations Training School, the 18thAirborne Corp Noncommissioned Officer’s Academy, 3rdArmy NCO Academy and the U.S. Army Drill Sergeants School. He also graduated from the First Sergeants Course, United States Army Sergeants Major Academy.
Among his assignments, he served as Senior Instructor, 8th Army Noncommissioned Officers Academy, Camp Jackson, Korea; Facilitator and Deputy Commandant, United States Army First Sergeants Course, Munich, Germany; Command Sergeant Major, 3d Battalion, 27th Infantry, 7th Infantry Division, Fort Ord, California; Joint Task Force Command Sergeant Major, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Command Sergeant Major, 3d Brigade, 7th Infantry Division, Fort Ord, California and Command Sergeant Major, US Army Training Center & Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He assumed the position of Command Sergeant Major of United States Army, Pacific (USARPAC) on 15 September 1995.
In September 1998, CSM Lopez left USARPAC for Fort Jackson, South Carolina, where he retired from the Army on 1 June 1999. Following his retirement, he became a Military Analyst for MPRI (Military Professional Resources, Inc.), a private contractor based in Alexandria, Virginia. In September 2000, CSM Lopez assumed duties as Senior Military Analyst for NCO Corps Development issues, CUBIC Application Inc., in Bratislava, Slovakia (Slovak Republic). In this position, he worked at the Slovak Ministry of Defense and served on a team tasked to assist Slovakia in the reform and modernization of its Armed Forces. In March 2010, CSM Lopez has served as CUBIC Application Inc.'s Chief of Operations and Training for E Company Task Force Marshall Cubic Applications Inc., Omega Training Division, at Fort Jackson, SC. From October 2012 to August 2013, he held a position in Operations and Training in Support of OPTARSS II Task Force Marshall Service.
In January 2014, CSM Lopez began his career in state government by accepting a position with the SC Department of Motor Vehicles. Following the October 2015 Severe Storm and Flooding in SC, he was asked to join the Governor’s Disaster Recovery Office. He currently serves as the Region 2 External Coordinator where he assists Long Term Recovery Groups, develop response plans and activities that help communities recover from a disaster.
CSM Lopez's has received a number of military awards includingthe Legion of Merit (2 OLC); Bronze Star; Purple Heart; Defense Meritorious Service Medal; Meritorious Service Medal, to include the Combat Infantryman Badge; Expert Infantryman Badge; Master Parachutist Badge; and Drill Sergeant Identification Badge.
He is currently an active member of the Fort Jackson SC Retiree Council and serves on the Executive Board for the Palmetto Chapter for Association United States Army (AUSA). He is a member of the Knights of Columbus, Member of the Commanding Generals Board of Directors at Fort Jackson, and Past Commander of the Charles P. Murray, Jr. Memorial Chapter 402 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Current Commander of the South Carolina Department of the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
CSM Lopez’s currently resides in Columbia, SC with his wife Pam and Granddaughter Malia.
