Region IV Commander Lenny Lazzara began his military career on September 6, 1967, when he entered the Marine Corps. After completing his training he then attended Airborne School at Ft.
Benning, Georgia in December of 1967. He arrived in Viet Nam in February 1968 and was assigned to the 1st Recon Battalion. Commander Lazzara was wounded on February 18, 1969. He completed his tour in Viet Nam in April 1969 and spent the rest of his time in Quantico, Virginia before being discharged in October 1969.
Commander Lazzara’s service to his country and his community did not end when he was discharged. He joined the Military Order of the Purple Heart assisting Veterans and their families throughout North Carolina. Commander Lazzara was instrumental in the state of North Carolina becoming the first state in the country to become “All Purple” by having all counties being proclaimed Purple Heart counties. He served as the Chapter Commander of Chapter 639 for 3 years and as the Department Commander of North Carolina for 3 1/2 years.
He was elected as the Region IV Commander in 2018 and continues to work vigilantly in support of Combat Wounded Veterans and their families.
